YICG~Golf Links ~ Passion meets Purpose

Updated: Oct 31

A total confluence of Talent, Service, Camaraderie, Intergenerational Bonds, and just like that YICG~Golf Links was born

The idea and concept of “Golfing for a Greener Tomorrow” was initiated by GVLP, as a way to bring together our passion for golf with the spirit of giving back to the land we enjoy. Many of our young leaders are proficient golfers and have enjoyed the great golf courses of Long Island, and they helped me share that joy with others in this event. Through this successful Golf Clinic, we raised more than $1,400 for Rewild Long Island!

The Story

On October 13th, 2024 at Eisenhower Park, Nassau County NY, over 50 Long Islanders participated in a Golf Clinic called ‘Beyond Mini Golf’. I designed this event to create a passion for golf for its participants and was successful in doing that for many children, teens, and adults. Participants were able to learn the basics of golf through four coaching stations, where they could learn and practice putting, chipping, approach shots, and full swings. At the end, there was a competition involving all aspects of the game. More than half of all the participants were teens, allowing this clinic to bring golf to a younger audience.

Our Youth Coaches and their Amazing Drives

The event would not have been possible without the help of the First Tee under the supervision Callen Williams and its volunteers; we were able to use their facilities for the event and I am beyond grateful for their support. I also am very thankful for the help of our young group leaders (Arjun Rajagopalan, Naren Ranganathan, and Vishwa Vasudevan), assistant coaches, and other volunteers for their commitment to the event.

The Cause

Besides sharing the wonderful game of golf, this event aimed to provide support to the ReWild Long Island Project. ReWild LI is a not for profit entity that promotes sustainability by encouraging a return to native planting and the removal of invasive species. Raising over $1400 for the ReWild Initiative, the clinic was a grand success and will contribute to a pollinator friendly Long Island. We owe deep gratitude to Rajiv Rudra who supported us with a generous matching contribution.
